Often, when a dog has digestive problems, owners immediately rush to the veterinary pharmacy for medicine. But sometimes an effective and safe solution can be as simple as boiled carrots.
Why are boiled carrots good for dogs?
• Restore gastrointestinal function. Cooked carrots are easy to digest and gently soothe the intestinal lining.
• Quickly relieve diarrhea. During boiling, carrots produce special oligosaccharides that prevent harmful bacteria from attaching to the intestinal walls. This helps stop diarrhea naturally.
• Create a healthy intestinal environment. Boiled carrots act as a mild prebiotic, supporting beneficial gut flora and strengthening immunity.
A bit of history: Ernst Moro and the “carrot soup”
In the early 20th century, Austrian pediatrician Ernst Moro invented a simple yet highly effective remedy for childhood diarrhea — carrot soup. At a time when antibiotics did not exist, this dish saved thousands of children from dehydration and death. The secret was that boiling carrots produced substances that blocked the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the intestines.
How to give carrots to your dog?
• Occasionally offer pieces of boiled carrots as a treat.
• Add small portions to their regular food.
• In cases of diarrhea or digestive upset, give 2–3 times a day, about an hour before meals.
Next time, I’ll tell you about an effective natural way to treat and prevent worms and giardia.
